Candidate Doug Ducey Pushes For Transparency in Arizona

In Arizona, state treasurer candidate and businessman Doug Ducey is calling for increased transparency in government spending as a critical means to cutting state spending. Ducey is a first time candidate and a self-described fiscal conservative who believes that transparency is essential to empower citizens to demand political accountability. He is pushing have government run like a private business—the state should not be allowed to spend money that it does not have. Stressing that the state’s current fiscal mess could have been complete avoidable, Ducey has expressed confidence in the ability of taxpayers, who are able to track their tax dollars,  to spot inefficiencies and reduce waste. Since Arizona does not yet have a state transparency portal online, we are thrilled to see a candidate pushing for much needed transparency. Most importantly, Ducey is part of a growing number of candidates who have adopted transparency as an important part of their campaigns for state office. We will be watching his campaign and hope the issue of opening up the states’ finances to taxpayers becomes a prevalent one in state races across the country.
