Today, CFA sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi, reminding her of her promise to put all legislation online for 72 hours before scheduling a vote, regarding the "minibus" appropriations bill that will be on the floor this week. The bill packages six appropriations bills together and represents a steep increase in spending on these agencies. From our letter:
If the Leadership of this Congress is truly committed to the principles of transparency and accountability, there should be no arbitrary decisions as to which bills would be subjected to a waiting period coupled with an online posting requirement and which ones would not. Certainly a package which appropriates and commits hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars should not be rushed. Regardless of whether parts of this package were previously available online – the package in its entirety was not.
Consequently, we urge you to allow taxpayers an opportunity to review this package for at least 72 hours before you schedule a vote.
