Last week, our friends at the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs unveiled a new transparency website, AccountAbilityOK.com. The portal provides Oklahomans with detailed financial information on how the state government is spending their tax dollars.  While Oklahoma was one of the first states to embrace the transparency movement, the state-run website leaves much to be desired for taxpayers interested in true accountability.  AccountAbilityOK uses innovative business software called QlikView that enables citizens to search the state’s checkbooks in unprecedented detail.  With information from payroll and pension figures to state revenue reports and credit card statements, AccountAbilityOK.com, provides taxpayers and public officials with the means to identify and root out waste in Oklahoma’s state government.  For Oklahomans interested in holding their state government accountable, this new resource is the best way to easily search and export financial information, identify wasteful spending, and hold policy makers accountable for the responsible stewardship of state tax dollars.
