On July 1, the state of Connecticut unveiled their official transparency portal, transparency.CT.gov. Thanks to the hard work of state legislators, citizens of the Constitution state now have unprecedented access to state financial documents, glimpsing the inner workings of government for the first time. Transparency.CT.gov was designed by the Office of Fiscal Analysis to be a comprehensive, single point of reference for taxpayers interested in knowing where their tax dollars are being spent. This new site contains detailed reports on state expenditures, a complete, searchable database of state employee compensation and pension packages, as well as both grant and contract databases. By opening the state ledger to public scrutiny, this new resource will give Connecticut’s citizens the information they need to hold lawmakers accountable for their spending policies.
