Just when we thought we were safe for a few weeks from Congress, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will call the chamber back into session next week. In an effort to "save teachers' jobs and help seniors and children" House members will vote on a $26 billion bailout to prevent these layoffs from happening. We urged the Senate to reject this bill yesterday when it came up for a cloture vote yesterday.
After doling out billions in bailouts already, government should not spend more bailing out poorly-managed states. Dunning more federal money to states that have failed to be accountable to their bottom lines will only continue to encourage this reckless spending.
House Minority Leader John Boehner spoke up about Speaker Pelosi's decision to call the House back into session to pass billions in additional "stimulus" spending. "The American people don't want more Washington 'stimulus' spending-especially in the form of a pay-off to union bosses and liberal special interests. This stunning display of ton-deafness comes at the expense of American works, who will be hit by another job-killing tax hike because Washington Democrats can't kick their addiction to more government 'stimulus' spending."
