President Barack Obama and top officials are on a perpetual publicity tour in efforts to promote the “stimulus” package passed last year. The White House has gone on 172 trips since the bill was passed, and 49 trips have taken place between June 1 and July 21 of this year. All of these joyrides have been used as opportunities to highlight the supposed benefit of “stimulus” spending across the country.
It costs $56,518 an hour to operate Air Force One according to a study by the Government Accountability Office. This is also on top of the millions of dollars spent on road signs touting “The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.” According to recovery.gov, the road sign project created 17 jobs and cost $15 million. Not exactly “stimulating.” Recent efforts have failed to rescind this audacious use of tax dollars for political propaganda.
The tremendous burdens these trips and road signs are putting on taxpayers are meant to promote a policy that has already wasted enough tax dollars. As we have already noted, the White House continues to claim that we are headed in the right direction but the unemployment numbers do not support this assertion from the President. By the White House’s own measures, the “stimulus” has been a complete failure. Yet, the President continues to waste time and money traveling around the country to promote its effects. Never one to let facts cloud the issue, this is an absurd public relations attempt to obscure the epic failure of this administration to implement true pro-growth policies. The President seems to think that talking about the “stimulus” will cause taxpayers to believe the job creation myth he is trying to peddle to them. But the sheer effort of 172 trips with millions wasted on “stimulus” signs while the unemployment rate still teeters around 10% suggests even he doesn’t believe in the snake oil he’s selling.
