Last week, Louisiana’s spending transparency site, LaTrac, went live with active contract data. The portal now lets taxpayers search by department, agency, amount, date, vendor, document type and description – a hefty variety not seen on most other websites. The site then allows taxpayers to sort contracts according to amount, document type or contractor and then for each displays all necessary identifying information, including a detailed description of the services rendered under the contracts. The total data set can even be downloaded into excel! While we would still like to see the actual contract document linked to the site, we applaud Louisiana for this sizable step towards greater government transparency.
