Our friends at OpenIllinois.org report that the State of Illinois has launched a new transparency portal (they already have a spending transparency website).
According to the new website, accessible at Sunshine.Illinois.Gov, the website is part of the Sunshine Project:
The Sunshine Project is an initiative of the Governor's Office, supported by the legislature through HB 35, that brings state government into the light.
Now your government is more open, more accountable and will ultimately be made more efficient.
We started with Sunshine Week's list of 20 top categories that serve the public interest; over time, this portal will expand to accommodate more requests for information.
Nice to see that state governments are getting in on the Sunshine Week action, hopefully we'll see more of such useful transparency projects in the coming days.
