Our friends at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy in Midland have done excellent work through their Show Michigan the Money Initiative on calling for increased transparency in Michigan's government expenditures. In fact, their work has inspired Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land to post all of the Department of State's expenditures online for taxpayers to access. Since 2008, Land has been placing expenditure data online which includes government employee salaries, contracts, employee travel, along with other comprehensive details. While the information is only accessible in a pdf and the information is somewhat buried on the Secretary of State website, we’re glad to see a state constitutional officer taking transparency seriously. Check out Michigan Department of State’s expenditures for fiscal year 2010 available here and let us know what you think!
