Our friends at the National Taxpayers Union spent some time on the Missouri Accountability Portal, which allows taxpayers to see how the State of Missouri is spending their tax dollars, and they came across some questionable expenditures. One vendor name in particular raised eyebrows:
Apparently, the State of Missouri spent $15,400 at Ann's Bra Shop from 2000 to 2008 for "professional services" and "clothing supplies.
Other expenditures over the same time period included $1.6 million at coffee shops, $387,000 at framing stores, $78,000 at florists and nurseries, and $70,800 at donut shops, may just fall under the category of general wasteful spending.
Gov. Blunt's office welcomes the scrutiny of his administration's expenditures, and has requested a review of these findings. Adding more detail on the individual expenditures would be one improvement we think should be made to the Missouri Accountability Portal which has already won awards and just recorded over 11 million hits.
