New Jersey Representatives Seek Waiting Period for Bills

Last week, New Jersey Representatives Vince Polistina (R-Egg Harbor Township) and John Amodeo (R-Margate) introduced legislation that would require every bill to be available online for public viewing before a vote can take place. This would include any amendments or substitution to the introduced bill, precluding the fiasco we saw at the federal level two weeks ago with Cap-and-Trade where a 309-page amendment was tacked onto the bill at 3:00 the morning before the vote took place. CFA has long supported the idea of budget-timeouts and in light of several spending packages and bailouts that have been rushed through this year, we are happy to see that some state lawmakers have realized that spending taxpayers’ money while leaving them in the dark is no longer acceptable practice. Hopefully, many more states and the federal government will follow suit.
