Sedwick County in Kansas Opens Up Its Books

A county in Kansas has joined the ranks of local governments who are embracing spending transparency. Last week, the Sedgwick County’s commission voted to place the county’s checkbook online. The site allows taxpayers to sort expenditures by function, category, fund and vendor for county expenses since 2002. The checkbook has spending listed down to the line item expense, a level of detail we don’t often see at any level of government. Kansas has been a leader in spending transparency at the state level and we are glad to see its localities are picking up the torch as well!
